Dr. Aaron J. Hart currently serves as Vice President for Student Affairs at VCU. Dr. Hart brings over 24 years of experience in higher education administration, overseeing the student affairs portfolio, including, but not limited to, the Dean of Student Office, Residential Life and Housing, Campus Recreation and Well-being, and University Counseling Services. Dr. Hart has humble beginnings, born and raised on the southside of Chicago to hard-working parents who never attended college but understood the value, and instilled the importance, of higher education. Dr. Hart is a proud Life-Member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
Dr. Hart received his doctorate from Arizona State University in Higher and Postsecondary Education. He has significant experience in critical areas within student affairs related to strategic planning, supervision, student development, multicultural competencies, leadership, and budgetary administration. Dr. Hart has authored several articles, book chapters and presented at national conferences on various topics related to best practices in student affairs, fraternity and sorority life, the advocacy of underrepresented students and staff in higher education, organizational and team development, and the effective implementation of co-curricular initiatives.
Alison Jones

Dr. Alison Jones began her career in higher education when she joined VCU in 2001 as the MCV Campus Student Services Center manager. She later worked with the School of Pharmacy as the student services and admissions manager, joining the Office of the Senior Vice President for Health Sciences in 2007 as director of academic affairs. Over the last seventeen years, Dr. Jones has taken on roles with increased responsibility and currently serves as the associate vice president for Health Sciences Academic Operations and Strategy.
Dr. Jones earned both her M.P.A. and Ed.D. at VCU and is a proud alum of the Grace E. Harris Leadership Insitute's VCU Leadership Development Program. Her favorite aspect of VCU is the incredibly talented and passionate people who are dedicated to the success of the VCU community. In her downtime, Dr. Jones enjoys spending time with her family, completing home renovation projects, and can occasionally be spotted in the student section of the Siegel Center cheering on the Rams.
Alison Miller

Alison Miller is a trusted strategic HR leader, with deep expertise in talent strategy, total rewards, performance management and organizational development. Alison currently leads the HR function at VCU where she has worked for the past 6 years. Her work is centered in human resources strategy, development of HR leaders, and the identification of practical HR solutions that align with VCU culture, goals, and budget. Alison previously held roles as the Total Rewards Director at the University of Virginia, and as a consulting partner, consulting principal, and HR manager in state government.
Alison's vision for VCU is that all employees experience VCU as the best place they have ever worked - whether they choose to make a career at VCU or move on to other opportunities. At the institutional level, she is committed to advancing VCU's strategic plan, Quest 2028, through alignment of HR practices with organizational strategy, enhancing the VCU culture of care & appreciation, employee career development and skill-building, enhanced people analytics, streamlining of HR processes, and deepening relationships with community partners in order to increase economic opportunity for all community members.
Alison’s academic preparation includes a BBA from the College of William and Mary, and a Master's of Public Administration from VCU.
Amy Armstrong

Amy J. Armstrong is the Associate Dean of Faculty for the College of Health Professions as well as an associate professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Counseling. She served as the chair of the department for over 10 years. Dr. Armstrong has extensive experience providing national personnel training on a variety of topics to include: strength-based leadership, employee engagement and wellbeing, and appreciative inquiry.
She received an MA in Rehabilitation Counseling from Michigan State University and a PhD in Education from VCU. She also has The Appreciative Inquiry Certificate of Positive Business and Societal Change from the Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University and is a certified Appreciative Inquiry Facilitator through the Appreciative Inquiry Commons.
Archana Kumar

Archana Kumar, a seasoned Human Resources Executive, brings over 17 years of dedicated experience in HR best practices. Having grown up as a second-generation expat in Qatar, she places immense value on the fusion of diverse cultures that have profoundly influenced her HR perspective during her tenure at VCUarts Qatar.
An advocate for authentic leadership, Archana serves as a change agent, focusing on enhancing employee engagement and fostering trust and harmony within the VCUarts Qatar community. Actively contributing to diversity and inclusion efforts, she sits on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee at VCUarts Qatar and is a member of the Leadership Task Force for Women in Higher Education, part of the multiversity initiative within Education City.
While Archana's core expertise lies in informal mediation resolution, emotional intelligence, mentorship, and coaching, her portfolio encompasses various HR facets such as Policies and Legal Compliance, Strategic Change Management, Compensation and Benefits, Immigration Affairs, as well as Personnel Recruitment and Retention endeavors. Her successful implementation of HR strategies aligned with organizational goals has resulted in a harmonious and productive work environment.
Beyond her impressive academic background, holding an MBA in Human Resources and Marketing, as well as a Bachelor's in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Archana's true passion lies in the realm of art, design and music, including mindfulness and yoga. Particularly drawn to fashion styling and various artistic endeavors, she has always felt intrigued to be working with artists and designers at VCUarts Qatar. Archana recently got certified as a Beginner's Hatha Yoga Teacher and is currently exploring ways to incorporate her education and
awareness to motivate and inspire the community through well-being programs.

Ashli Phillips, a native of Chesapeake, VA, is a dedicated professional with a Master's in Healthcare Administration from George Mason University in 2023 and an undergraduate degree in Health Sciences from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2020. Passionate about Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and health equity, Ashli currently serves as the Program Manager in the DEI office at VCU School of Medicine. Additionally, she plays a key role as the Community Service Subcommittee Chair for the Health Sciences Career Community. Prior to her current role, Ashli worked for VCU Health and served in various administrative positions within the DEI office at the School of Medicine.

She has returned to VCU in pursuit of her PhD. in Counselor Education and Supervision to continue her lifelong work in providing comprehensive services and leadership in this field. With over 15 years in education, both in K-12 and Higher Education, Audra has worked intensively to serve her community as a counselor, educator. advocate, leader, and administrator. Along the way, she has helped her students, clients, and colleagues tangibly connect the world of work to their growth and development. Audra currently serves as the district leader for School Counseling in Chesterfield County Public Schools.

A former public school music teacher, Brent has had an eclectic transition into a completely different career at School of Dentistry. Starting as an instructional technologist, Brent helped refine the management of all classroom technology, including introducing an electronic exam platform and introducing multiple professional learning opportunities related to technology. Over the last couple of years, he has formed a team of instructional designers to provide support and help, while also hiring a clinical systems analyst, as his team has also taken ownership of the school’s electronic health record as well. His team provides classroom technology support, learning management system support, and many professional training opportunities for all faculty, staff, and students.

Bret Clayton-Brooks is a Senior Clinical Research Coordinator in VCU’s Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the Center for Rehabilitation Science and Engineering (CERSE). Bret manages all aspects of study coordination in Spinal Cord Injury clinical trials at the Richmond Veterans Affairs Medical Center and serves as a subject matter expert on clinical research regulatory administration and protocol implementation within CERSE.
Bret has 5 years of clinical research experience at VCU and has managed research programs and clinical trials in substance use disorders, pediatric Long-COVID, and oncology. He has spent his entire professional and academic career at VCU, having studied biology and microbiology/immunology at the undergraduate and graduate level respectively. He is a Certified Clinical Research Professional and Certified Associate in Project Management.
Outside of work, Bret has a passion for cooking, reading, martial arts, and traveling. His favorite activity, however, is spending time with his wife and daughter. He is currently (very excitedly) awaiting the arrival of his second daughter in April 2024.

Catherine Brown

Catherine R. Brown, CCRP, has 35 plus years’ combined experience in clinical research with an urban academic medical center, a global pharmaceutical contract research organization (CRO) and communicable disease in the non-profit sector. Ms. Brown currently works with the VCU Wright Regional Center for Clinical and Translational Science as the Program Manager for clinical research professional (CRP) workforce development and VCU’s Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Clinical Research. Her current role focuses on the awareness and promotion of clinical research as an intentional career path developing academic and professional development programs for VCU and VCUH clinical research professionals and community partners.
Ms. Brown has been a Certified Clinical Research Professional for 20 years maintaining the CCRP™ designation from the Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA). In Fall 2024 she will complete a Masters in Adult Education, Curriculum and Instruction at Virginia Commonwealth University. She has demonstrated experience in organizational leadership, management, human resources, training, performance management, professional development, instructional design and curriculum development. Ms. Brown is dedicated to creating career pathways and learning opportunities accessible to all. As an advocate of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) she incorporates this educational framework in CRP professional development and academic programming. Areas of current interest are learning science, scholarship of teaching and learning, trauma-informed andragogy, education equity and racial healing and restoration in higher education, non-profit, community and faith-based settings.

Dr. Chris Parthemos is the Assistant Director of VCU’s Student Accessibility and Educational Opportunity office, which supports students with disabilities on the Monroe Park Campus through the provision of accommodations and other supportive services in pursuit of a more accessible learning environment.
Chris is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, with a career in both academic support and vocational rehabilitation, in the support of inclusion for those with disabilities. As an educational researcher, his priorities include institutional equity, sense of belonging, artificial intelligence, and disability studies

In his role, Oglethorpe helps guide the communication efforts for the university's research enterprise. Prior to his role with the OVPRI, he was director of public relations and marketing communications at VCU Massey Cancer Center where he focused on finding new and innovative ways to reach underserved populations and address equity and access for cancer care in Massey’s catchment area and beyond.
Oglethorpe has more than 15 years of experience in public relations and marketing, including over a decade in the higher education field - both in student affairs and athletics communications. Oglethorpe earned his masters and doctorate degrees in educational leadership from the University of Central Florida and his bachelor of arts in strategic communication from The Ohio State University. He is a proud, adopted Richmonder and spends most of his time outdoors hiking, camping, golfing and whatever else life throws at him, his partner, Lauren, and their dog Jensen.

Ella Danilovich, serving as the VCU Information Technology Career Community Mentorship Chair, is dedicated to fostering collaboration within the VCU IT community. Through facilitating meaningful mentor-mentee connections, sharing insights via informative newsletters and organizing events, Ella plays a key role in cultivating the growth and development of VCU IT employees.
In her role as a web developer, Ella developed diverse VCU websites, highlighting her proficiency in both technical and design domains. Outside her professional obligations, Ella demonstrates her commitment to lifelong learning through engagement in diverse courses for personal enrichment. Notably, she recently graduated from the VCU GEHLI Higher Ground Women's Leadership Program, a testament to her unwavering commitment to personal and professional growth.

Felicia Harris is the Director of Sponsored Programs for the College of Humanities and Sciences. Felicia provides oversight and coordination of pre- and post-award actions, the grant reconciliation process, cost share management, audit and graduate studies research-related hiring. She leads a team of five grant research administrators and an assistant director and provides leadership and development activities supporting the promotion and growth of the college’s research enterprise.
Felicia has more than fifteen years of experience managing federal, non-federal and internal grants. Although the majority of her experience has been here at VCU, she has also managed grants at the University of Richmond and the VA Department of Motor Vehicles.
She is an alum of VCU, holding a B.S. in Business Administration/Management and an MBA from Strayer University. She earned her Certified Research Administrator (CRA) credential in 2014. In addition to her career in research administration, she enjoys being a leader, often training and guiding staff and colleagues in policies and procedures to ensure their success.
Felicia’s outside interests include cooking, traveling, attending wine tastings and visiting museums. She’s also a passionate sports fan, often watching televised games or attending in person. Her favorite teams are the Dallas Cowboys and the Golden State Warriors.

Fred is a John C. Maxwell certified Speaker, a Forbes Coaches Council contributor, and a member of the International Coaching Federation (ICF). He is currently pursuing his doctoral degree in Leadership at VCU.

Ginny Thompson enjoys supporting faculty with the creation of engaging digital learning environments. Prior to joining Virginia Commonwealth University, she was an instructional designer for six years at St. Vincent’s College in Bridgeport, Connecticut, helping to launch several online programs, including an RN-BSN program. Ginny has experience evaluating the quality of online courses, holding a Quality Matters Peer Reviewer certification. She taught Educational Technology at Notre Dame of Maryland University in Baltimore, Maryland for five years and has a masters degree in Education from the University of Michigan. A recent transplant to RVA, she enjoys hitting the Buttermilk Trail, riding her bike in the Fan and learning more about street photography.

Her international journey includes a tenure in Istanbul as a certified Business English consultant where she enriched the communication skills of aviation professionals and business executives alike. Recognized for her ability to engage and inspire a diverse adult audience, Helene currently holds the position of Associate Director of Graduate Professional Development at the VCU School of Business.

India Hawkins is a research technician in the department of Pediatrics at VCU where she researches muscular dystrophy and cardiac dysfunction models. Under her mentor, Dr. Frank Raucci, she investigates the role of Pannexin 1 and other mechanisms connected to Duchenne muscular dystrophy. As an Old Dominion Alumna, she has a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in World Cultural Studies with an emphasis in Spanish.
Growing up in a heavily diverse population, India found the value to learn Spanish as her second language to connect with and understand her community. Due to the lack of equal access to healthcare and education led she volunteers with a non-profit organization in Richmond, VA whose mission is to offer education and support services for Latino families and individuals. Post-graduation she has gained experience in clinical settings and in private and academic research. She serves as the mentorship chair of the RCC at VCU with a hope to provide guidance to new graduates entering the workforce. She welcomes new challenges and has a passion for finding artistic endeavors as an outlet.
James Wasilewski

James has served in various fundraising, constituent engagement and student recruitment roles in higher education for 20 years - currently the Executive Director of Leadership Annual Giving within VCU's Development and Alumni Relations leading focused fundraising efforts and also engaging in leadership and fundraising training initiatives. During his tenure at VCU, he has also served in roles with the Massey Cancer Center and in the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs.
When provided the opportunity, he facilitates workshops based on his experiences in fundraising as well as with his improvisational comedy experience over the past 20 years. He leads sessions on storytelling, making the ask, emotionally intelligent fundraising, creating a culture of philanthropy and more. He applies improv concepts and use exercises to highlight discovery and engage participants in exploration and discussion. He also encourages and facilitates people development workshops including a variety of topics in the areas of leadership, creativity, teamwork and communications.
Jonathan Fuller

Jonathan serves as the Assistant Director for Student Leadership in VCU's Office of Student Leadership and Engaged Learning. He oversees student leadership initiatives in the Division of Student Affairs, including the Peer Leadership Initiative, the Emerging Leaders Program, and others.
His passions for leadership and care-filled student development is evident in his student
and professional experiences in student affairs, student government and organization, residence life, hospital chaplaincy, and community engagement. He is a current Ph.D. student in VCU's School of Education, where his research focuses on improving the relationship between undergraduate working learners/student leaders and their supervisors. He lives in Henrico with his spouse, Abby, and rescued pit bull, Winnie.
Jordy Rabinowitz

Jordy Rabinowitz is the Interim Chief Human Resources Officer at VCU Health and a Managing Director with Gallagher's Human Resources Compensation and Consulting business line, serving the Talent and Leadership Advisory Practice. Jordy brings close to 30 years of rich healthcare experience in large multi-hospital systems. Jordy has served as a C-suite partner in leading HR teams aligned with overall business strategy. He works closely with boards of directors and executive leaders to drive change through insightful analysis of complex workforce matters. Jordy has been key in hiring numerous executives into unique and complex roles and in redefining those roles before hiring.
Prior to joining Gallagher, Jordy served as the Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer for the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth). This 10-hospital, seven-campus system located in New York's Hudson Valley earns more than $2.5 billion in revenue employing a workforce of more than 13,000. As CHRO, Jordy oversaw strategic integration of the HR function for the growing network, including completely transforming engagement, communication, and culture. In this role, Jordy directed a team of more than 100 human resources and education professionals providing services to the network's multi-employer entities.
Prior to leading the Human Resources function at WMCHealth, Jordy served as in-house counsel, specializing in labor and employment law, partnering closely with the Human Resource departments at WMCHealth, and before that, with the Long Island-based Northwell Health. Jordy continues to leverage his extensive legal experience in advising Boards and C-suites with all aspects of workforce issues.
Jordy has served as a Trustee for the 1199 SEIU Benefit and Pension funds, which provide healthcare and retirement coverage for thousands of active and retired New York based healthcare workers. Jordy is a member of American Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration (ASHHRA), American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), and the Plan Sponsor Counsel of America (PSCA). He has presented at conferences sponsored by these organizations.
Jordy holds a Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School and a Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University.
Joslyn DiRamio Bedell

Joslyn DiRamio Bedell has been with VCU for just over 10 years and has been working with college students as a professional student affairs administrator and educator for over 22 years. She is currently the Special Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs, and has worked in career services, student activities, leadership & involvement, academic advising, and service-learning roles across 5 different colleges and universities in Georgia, Vermont and Virginia.
Joslyn grew up in the suburbs of Atlanta in Marietta, GA. She has a bachelor of arts degree in Latin from the University of Georgia and a Masters of Education in Higher Education Administration from the University of Vermont.

She has taught career counseling classes, presented professional development and research on counseling and supervision at international and national conferences and received the Ruch Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2022. Her research interests include counselor development, social comparison, family counseling, and supporting Latine mental health.

Katy Washington, J.D., PhD., is the inaugural Chief Accessibility Officer at Virginia Commonwealth University in the Office of Institutional Equity, Effectiveness, and Success and serves as the ADA/Section 504 Coordinator. She has spent over eighteen years working with faculty and staff to facilitate an inclusive campus environment for disabled students. In her current role, Katy uses an innovative approach to proactively remove physical and digital barriers to equal access by collaborating with workgroups and partners across the university; administering the employment-related accommodation process; and ensuring university compliance with relevant state and federal laws which directly impact equal access and inclusion of disabled employees, students, and visitors.
Katy received a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from the University of Central Arkansas. She also holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and a Ph.D. in Public Policy from the University of Arkansas. She currently serves as President of the Board of Directors for the Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD).

Kelechi “K.C.” Ogbonna, Pharm.D., M.S.H.A., was named dean of Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy in December 2022. Prior to that appointment, he served as associate dean of admissions and student, overseeing recruitment and student support for the Doctor of Pharmacy program.
Dr. Ogbonna has a fantastic record of innovation and delivering results for students, patients, faculty and staff. As a pharmacist and educator, Dr. Ogbonna has focused on connecting communities with health care, improving health disparities and expanding access to the health professions. As the pharmacy school’s head of admissions and student services, his innovative approaches strengthened student outcomes and expanded student success services, while the school hit historic highs for on-time graduation rates and number of underrepresented minorities entering the pharmacy profession.
In 2022, Dr. Ogbonna was the recipient of the Riese-Melton Award, VCU’s highest honor for academic and administrative leadership on issues related to diversity and inclusion. He also has received the 10 Under 10 Award from the Virginia Pharmacists Association, the President’s Award from the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists, and the Black History in the Making Award from VCU’s departments of health administration and African American studies.
Dr. Ogbonna earned his Pharm.D. at MCPHS and a Master’s in Health Administration from VCU. He completed his PGY-1 & PGY-2 residencies within the Veteran Affairs Connecticut Healthcare System in West Haven, Connecticut.

Kristen Tuxbury, M.S.Ed., NCC Kristen Tuxbury is a former school counselor and current full time doctoral student at Virginia Commonwealth University. She is the current president of VCUs chapter of Chi Sigma Iota and a Pete Warren Student Fellow awarded by the Virginia Counselors Association Foundation. She received a graduate student development grant from Virginia Association for Counselor Education and Supervision.
Her research interests focus on the development of cultural humility in school counselors, and exploring the experiences of Latine immigrant students and their families as they navigate high schools in the United States.

Dr. Maike Philipsen

Maike Ingrid Philipsen holds the position of Professor in the Department of Foundations of Education at Virginia Commonwealth University. She received her Ph.D. in Social Foundations at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and had previously earned her Master’s degree in Political Science at the Free University of Berlin. Her research interests span the social foundations of education, including issues of social justice and equality in education, specifically the roles of race, gender, and social class in shaping schools and institutions of higher learning. She studies questions relating to equal opportunities at both the K-12 and college/university levels, employing primarily a sociological perspective and qualitative methodologies. She currently serves as Co-PI on VCU’s ADVANCE Institutional Transformation grant and directs the Cultural Change Program, including the Immunities to Change (ITC) initiative.

Mary holds a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and a Master’s degree in Environmental Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). She is currently working toward a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration from VCU’s L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs.
She worked for a state agency as a program coordinator on a federally funded project prior to going into the field of research administration at VCU where she was a Senior Grant and Contract Administrator for the Division of Sponsored Programs. She now works as a Research Development Administration in the Division of Research Development. Mary also enjoys Olympic weightlifting in her free time.

Maya Rogers, MPA, is a Lead Financial Specialist in the Office of the Provost, serving as part of the Academic Operations unit. Maya is a Virginia native, born and raised in Northern VA and then moving to Richmond in 2015. Maya is also a VCU alumnus, having obtained a Bachelor's of Science degree in Accounting (‘19), a Post-Bachelor Certificate in Public Management (‘21), and a Masters of Public Administration (‘23) all from Virginia Commonwealth University. Maya has been working at VCU full-time for four years and enjoys helping people gain access to the necessary financial information and resources that in turn help others provide the best student experience possible. Currently she serves as the VCU Staff Senate Vice President and the VCU Leadership Career Community (LCC) Communications Chair-Elect.

Melissa has been working on the MCV Campus of VCU for the last 18 years. She started in the admissions office for the School of Pharmacy, became the financial/academic coordinator in the Vice President’s office for the Center for Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Care, and is now the building manager and coordinator for the Vice President’s office. She has been the Chair of the VCU Staff Senate for the last several years, and is a member of numerous boards and committees around the university.
She graduated as valedictorian of the Richmond School for Urban Ministry, obtaining a BS in Christian Education, and used this to advance her ministry in areas helping at risk youth, the homeless, addiction ministry, crisis pregnancy ministry, transitioning people from prison, a food pantry out of her home, and much more. She was a youth minister for 5 years and is also a recording artist and the lead singer of Zechariah’s Song, where she sang and spoke over 100 times a year for many years and hosted a radio show, and she still performs at and attends over 100 charity events a year. After losing 160 pounds several years ago, Melissa wrote a Sugar-Free Cookbook and speaks about health and wellness at numerous places such as the Richmond Health Department, VCU Medical Hospital, J. Sargent Reynolds, Richmond Health Disparities, and featured in the Richmond Health Magazine. She is an advocate for debt free living, and helps others in this endeavor as she herself is debt free. She does interior decorating, is a website developer, caterer and event planner, and wedding coordinator. She was awarded the title of Mrs. Congeniality as well as the Ambassador Award for her community service in 2018 and 2019 at the Virginia Mrs. for America pageant and strives to live by the attributes of that prestigious award daily.

Dr. Mia Liadis serves as the Assistant Director of Health Promotion at VCU Recreation and Well-being "RecWell." She received her PhD from VCU's Counselor Education and Supervision Program, where her research focused on community-centered care on campuses, and health and well-being for diverse student populations. She also received her M.Ed. from VCU's Counselor Education program. She has spent nearly ten years working with VCU students, faculty, and staff, to influence policies and practices that support thriving campus communities.
She serves as an editorial staff member on an academic journal with the American Counseling Association and is an adjunct instructor in the School of Education and University College, working with undergraduate and graduate students interested in evidence-based practices for health and well-being. She is the founder of VCU's Mindful Ambassador Program (MAP).

Priscilla Clayborne worked previously at the Virginia Department of Education where she worked on several million-dollar project under Teacher Education and Licensure. She has been with Virginia Commonwealth University for the last 17 years. She has served in several roles in the office of Grants & Contracts Accounting, wherein her current position is office manager.
She currently serves as the VP Membership of Toastmaster 2022-2024 and was co-chair of the Mentoring Committee for GACC. She represented her club and won the Triple Crown in the Toastmasters International Speech contest spring of 2023. She serves as a mentor in Toastmasters as well as in the community.
She has been a part of the Staff Senate in one capacity or the other since 2016. She has her Doctorate of Divinity degree, Th.D. and a certificate in Pastoral counseling. She is passionate about supporting and serving others to be the best they can be while helping them make a difference and feel good while accomplishing their full potential. She enjoys spending time with family, friends, traveling, the arts, and fellowship or just having an insightful conversation.

Prior to her role at VCU, Rebecca worked for District of Columbia Public Schools as a leadership development program coordinator. She started her career at George Washington University where she was the student employment manager.
Rebecca’s academic preparation includes a BA in Psychology and English from The College of William and Mary and a MA in Higher Education Administration from The George Washington University. She is currently pursuing her second Master’s degree - an MS in Mass Communications here at VCU.

As a native of Richmond, VA, husband and father, Sherwood attributes each moment of his life to his cultural and spiritual identity. Sherwood engages integrative approaches to care, while at the same time focusing on the person as a whole; mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual. Sherwood, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, attended the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Social Work in which he obtained both his Bachelor and Master of Social Work degrees. Sherwood currently serves as the Director of the Child Development Clinic of the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU and Owner/Principal Consultant of Just As I Am (JAIA) Clinical Consulting, LLC.
Sherwood, licensed and ordained in ministry, attended the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University (VUU) in which he obtained his Master of Divinity Degree and serves as an Associate Minister at the Cedar Street Baptist Church. In addition to ministry endeavors, Sherwood is privileged to serve as an adjunct faculty member here at the VCU School of Social Work.
Sherwood presents both locally and nationally in the areas of behavioral health and faith development. With a focus on community, Sherwood is a member of the Richmond Association of Black Social Workers (RABSW), the National Association of Social Work (NASW)- Virginia Chapter, the VCU African American Alumni Council (AAAC) Mentoring Circle and serves on the Board of Directors of the South Richmond Adult Daycare Center. Most recently, via the Youngkin Administration, Sherwood received honor of gubernatorial appointment to the Virginia Board of Social Work in which he currently serves his first term from 2022-2026. She brings more than 25 years of clinical research experience to the role including management of a core clinical research laboratory, research participant testing and education, institutional clinical research resources outreach and collaboration, and has performed a range of administrative and operational clinical research roles. After receiving a master’s degree in immunology from VCU, Ms. Helm obtained her CCRP® certification in 2010.
A life-long learner, Shirley recently graduated with the VCU Post-baccalaureate Certificate in Clinical Research for which she was instrumental in developing. She is a co-founder and current chair of the Central Virginia SOCRA chapter, a member of the SOCRA certification exam item writing committee, and has been recently elected to the SOCRA Board of Directors.

Suzanne Milton, Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer, Virginia Commonwealth University, is an experienced ethics and compliance attorney and executive with extensive expertise in ethics and compliance program design and implementation, enterprise risk assessment, investigations, compliance monitoring, and code of conduct and diversity/inclusion training.
Prior to coming to VCU, Ms. Milton served as Vice President, Ethics and Compliance, at US Foods, Inc., a public broadline food and food distribution company that serves independent restaurant and institutional customers across the United States, providing over 350,000 products across more than 80 locations and employing over 25,000 people. Prior to joining US Foods, Ms. Milton was Manager, Ethics and Compliance, Boeing International, at the Boeing Company, responsible for the execution and delivery of Boeing’s ethics and compliance program internationally through a team of advisors located in five regions globally.
Ms. Milton began her career in the executive branch of the U.S. government, serving as an executive in Human Resources at the Transportation Security Administration and an executive in both Human Resources and Legal at the U.S. Postal Service.
She is a graduate of Harvard University, cum laude, in History and Literature, and received her JD from the University of Texas School of Law. She serves on the Board of the Ethics and Compliance Initiative, the premier ethics and compliance research and member organization in the U.S., as well as InterAct Story Theatre, a nonprofit in Wheaton, Maryland dedicated to bringing interactive arts education to students and teachers K-12. She also serves as a volunteer independent member of the Ethics Committee for USA Weightlifting. Suzanne resides in Silver Spring, Maryland with her family and is an avid reader and rower.

Tanika Santos MacSwain, started at Recreation & Well-Being in 2021 as the Fitness Coordinate after earning her master’s degree in Kinesiology and Health Promotion at the University of Kentucky. Now, as the Assistant Director of Fitness, Tanika aspires to promote holistic wellness and use her platform to create transformation for others. Tanika oversees the personal training program which includes teaching academic courses, developing programs and optimizing student growth.
Her health philosophy is that optimizing well-being through a personalized approach that engages individuals in health education, advocacy and behavior change encourages greater autonomy in their journeys. Through this work Tanika hopes to connect with campus communities in an effort to improve experiences across social and physical environments. When she's not in the Rec Center you can find her on the dance floor, at the river or in a fuzzy blanket with a good book.

Tom Bannard (he/him/his), CADC, CPRSS, MBA, is the Assistant Director for Substance Use and Recovery Support at Virginia Commonwealth University. A person in long-term recovery, Tom is passionate about changing the way we treat substance use and firmly believes that we must improve our systems of care by focusing on long-term recovery supports, allowing easier access to treatment and recovery resources, educating and supporting family members, and reducing stigma around substance use.
Tom directs Rams in Recovery, the largest Collegiate Recovery Program in Virginia and oversees an expansion grant through the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services to expand recovery supports at 9 schools in the Commonwealth. Tom loves to help people in recovery find purpose and passion in their career paths and especially enjoys teaching and expanding the peer recovery workforce and profession. Tom spent the first 7 years of his career working with people experiencing homelessness at CARITAS. Tom lives in Richmond with his partner Julz, his daughter Inez, and his dog Murphy.

Trevon Straughter (they,he) is a Richmond, VA native,currently serving in an administrative capacity at Virginia Commonwealth University. Being native to such a historically and culturally rich community, Tre enjoys giving back to their community, both locally and along the east coast. To their credit, Tre serves as a virtual strategy and program coordinator for the African American Alumni Council through their mentoring circle and young alumni initiatives. Tre also joined the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) Pan African network recently, to support Black colleagues nationally through leadership, service, and scholarship. Above all else, their advocacy and support in areas such as LGBTQIA+ initiatives, equitable access and support for students, staff, and faculty; strategic planning with an emphasis on inclusive practices and community sustainability has been at the core of their community engagement and service. Trevon Straughter (they,he) is a Richmond, VA native and VCU alum, currently serving in an administrative capacity at Virginia Commonwealth University. Tre also serves as a virtual strategy and program coordinator for the African American Alumni Council through their mentoring circle and young alumni recruitment committee. Above all else, their advocacy and support in areas such as LGBTQIA+ initiatives, equitable access and support for students, staff, and faculty; strategic planning with an emphasis on inclusive practices and community sustainability has been at the core of their community engagement and service. Tre hopes to continue serving minoritized and historically marginalized communities locally and nationally.

Vickie Mullins is a Program Coordinator, Sr. in the Division of Patient Safety and Quality Improvement at VCU Health. She has been at the Health System for 12 years, starting her career as a Patient Services Representative in the Internal Medicine Specialties Clinic. Prior to her Health System career, Vickie spent 25 years in the travel and hospitality industries. Vickie is a content expert in many Health System systems, including Sharepoint and MS Teams. She is responsible for the Health System Board reports for the Department of Quality and Safety, Quality Council preparations, as well as the day-to-day operations of the division.

Virginia Damron earned her B.A. in Religion from William and Mary and a MEd in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in College Student Personnel Administration from James Madison University. With 18 years of higher education experience in career and academic advising, Ms. Damron has worked at 4 different universities: Allegheny College in Meadville, PA; The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC; William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA, and for the past 5 years she's been at VCU. From January 2019 thru July 2023, she worked at VCU's School of Business first as an Academic Advisor and then as the Associate Director of VCU's Business Career Services. In August 2023, she transitioned to her current role of Senior Career Counselor for Health Sciences with VCU Career Services. Virginia's been married to her husband for over 12 years. She's also a dog mom, proud aunt of 6 nieces, and loves to bake and read.

Warran L. Dawson serves as grants fiscal analyst for the Office of Finance. With over 22 years of experience at VCU, he previously served as a certified grants administrator overseeing grants fiscal management, forecasting, and reporting at the School of Pharmacy. Prior to that, he worked with the VCU Department of Health Administration, Continuing Medical Education, the Division of Quality Healthcare, and Student Accounting.
In his current role, Warran oversees post-award fiscal management for all grants at the School of Education, manages external fund accounts in the School's academic and business units, and serves as the first point of contact to finance professionals and teams located in our centers.

Warren finished her Masters of Public Administration in May of 2021. She helped create the Information Technology Career Community and chaired it from 2020-2021. The numbers went from 145 attendees to 890 attendees under her leadership. Outside of work, owning dogs and enjoying science fiction brings her joy.

Aaron Gilley is the Manager of Talent Engagement at VCU Health Human Resources. He has over a decade of experience working in healthcare human resources in academic medical centers. Prior to that, Aaron was a career counselor in higher education for seven years, helping college students of all ages navigate the career development process. Aaron is also a trained improviser and storyteller, having performed with Bent Theatre and ComedySportz for over 15 years. He has a BS in Psychology from Milligan College, MA in Counseling from East Tennessee State University, and a graduate certificate in HR Leadership from the University of Virginia. He is also currently enrolled as a doctoral student in the Leadership program through VCU School of Education.
