Hello! My name is Brianna Wayne, and I am a Business Foundations advisor in University Academic Advising. I have been an advisor at VCU for two years. I have a background in Education, specializing in working with middle school students, i.e. students in transition! This skillset has directly transitioned to a lot of the things I do as an advisor. Since my first day here, I found it integral for me to build strong relationships within my department and beyond. I am naturally an outgoing person and find that when I make efforts to welcome and include others, it contributes to me working harder and more efficiently in my own role because of the sense of community I foster. When I took the time to discover my passions, it allowed me to capitalize on creating materials and initiatives that I have shared across departments at the university. Usually, these initiatives come in the form of graphics that I share with my team and with the other teams within my department. My goal is to help others discover the "fun" within their jobs and use their strengths to foster their own version of Welcoming Collaboration"

Hello! My name is Darby Libka, and I am an academic advisor for first-year Arts students here at VCU. My background is in geography studying how we survive and thrive in the natural and built environments and societies around us. One thing a geographer always keeps in mind is that ordinary folks have some of the most important expertise regarding their particular environments, and often they hold the key solutions to challenges. Our workplaces are no different! Each individual in our offices is bringing a whole lifetime of expertise and experiences with them to the workplace; so, I am passionate about creating welcoming spaces that allow people to be their authentic selves and to be able to bring their own experiences and specialties to our work environments. When individuals are empowered to bring their own expertise to our workplaces, not only do we open up opportunities for creative ideas and solutions, but we also create a culture that allows people to feel valued and welcome as their authentic selves.

Nadine Madison (she/her)

Group Exercise Coordinator

"Inside Out: Leading with Emotional Intelligence"

March 13, 2:15 pm - 3:15 pm

Nadine has been the Group Exercise Coordinator for VCU RecWell since 2022, working to encourage VCU students, faculty/staff, and the greater Richmond community to have fun on their fitness journeys. She has been a Group Fitness Instructor for 9 years and her health and wellness philosophy emphasizes placing enjoyment and balance at the forefront of one’s lifestyle and recognizing that we should strive to engage in activities that promote not only physical but mental and emotional health. Nadine is motivated to create a group exercise program that focuses on relationship building and social connection among participants and offers an inclusive environment where participants feel empowered to share their experiences. The gym can be an intimidating space, especially on a college campus, and providing opportunities for fitness in a safe space may allow participants to grow more confident. Being in a leadership position that supervises students, while also teaching classes to VCU students has reshaped Nadine’s perspective on the reasons students engage with her program and allows her to continuously adapt the program to be more in line with their needs. Nadine believes that in order to meet these needs, RecWell’s collaboration across VCU’s campus, including partnerships with offices like OMSA and Residential Life and Housing is imperative since many are unaware of the resources available. Her goals are to continue learning about our community and the ever-changing fitness industry in order to best support individuals who are trying new things while finding their joy in movement.
